Remembering the Flood of 1947

One of the greatest tragedies in American history took place in the year 1947 when a combination of tropical weather systems and unusual weather in the Midwest generated floods that ravaged eight states, including Florida.

Jackson County was hit hard by flooding as the Apalachicola/Chattahoochee and Chipola Rivers poured out of their banks, flooding roads, homes and fields.

These photographs were submitted by former Jackson County Clerk of Courts Daun Crews.
