Alford Community Organization Is Hard At Work

Currently the ACO, a non-profit organization, is diligently working on their second project, "Annual Country Dinner and Auction" on Saturday, October 11th with dinner starting at 4:00PM followed by the most anticipated part of the event – THE AUCTION. The event will be held at the Alford Community Center located at the Ball Park on Park Av.
A "DOWN HOME" meal prepared by fabulous Southern cooks will include Fried Chicken, Baked Chicken, Baked ham, a Variety of Home Cooked Vegetables, Classic Casseroles, Super Salads, Delectable Deserts, Rolls, Tea, & Coffee for only $10 (eat in or take out). Tickets will be on sale until October 7th.
Meetings are the 3rd Monday of each month, 6:00PM at the Alford Community Center. All members pay $10 yearly dues. We seek members from The Town of Alford and surrounding Communities to join our organization. Please contact Alford Community Organization officers: Peggy Y. Mills, President (850-579-4482), J.W. Bob Calvert will start the auction at 6:00 p.m. Items have been donated by area businesses from Alford, Chipley, Cottondale, Dothan, Graceville, Marianna, Panama City, and private donors. Items to be auctioned will be available for viewing at 4:30PM prior to and during the dinner.
ACO’s main goal is to enhance and beautify the Town of Alford while making it a safe, friendly and family oriented place to live. Additional goals are: establish a Walk of Memories Garden, plant trees and flowers, secure new city limit signs with a town slogan, purchase additional Christmas Decorations, and provide a yard of the month sign. ACO will back The Town of Alford in getting property owners to clean up overgrown property, do away with non-tagged vehicles, useless junk, so our town can become a beautiful delightful place to live.
Help is desperately needed to improve our town. When people visit in Alford, they take notice of the overall appearance of the different properties. Our goal is for people to view well groomed yards free of junk, overgrown weeds/brush, and garbage. A majority of Citizens of Alford and the joining Communities take pride in our homes and strive to keep our property clean. However, this must be everyone’s goal. All renters and property owners must embrace this goal.
Alford has the potential of becoming a quaint, beautiful town. Alford can and must change so people will desire to buy property and build homes in our town and Communities. Pride in one’s community will help foster a desire to volunteer to work in CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS thus ensuring continuing and steady progress in our town and surrounding areas.
Mrs. Mills, wife of the late, life long resident of Alford, Dewey R. Mills, Jr. is a retired educator. She taught school at Alford and Cottondale Elementary Schools. Leaving behind an active role in education and its organizations, she is passionate about the Town of Alford and its future. Peggy states when people visit, I want to hear, "This is a small, quaint, clean, and friendly town.
