Art enthusiasts throughout the area are working feverishly to bring to the community the annual free, family- oriented Sunday Afternoon with the Arts at Chipola College on November 2. In its 4th year the educational exhibit features professional entertainment, hands on art- educational experiences for people of all ages and an excellent art exhibit of work created by local and regional artists. "This year, Chipola College graduates, that are artists, are invited to participate in the exhibit no matter where they reside as well as regional artists from the 5 county area Chipola College serves", announced Nancy Zurenda, event Chairperson. Entry deadline is October 4.
As in the past, this year’s exhibit includes a variety of work including furniture painted in the traditional Norwegian style called Rosemaling by Jackson County Artist, Berit Jackson. In addition to the over 100 pieces of art on display the event will feature local and regional artists demonstrating their work or guiding the public in hands on art experiences. Some of the artists who have volunteered to participate in the art opportunities include: Jerry Whitson- plein air watercolor, Anna Gitana Layton, fiber art, Debi Menacof, papermaking, Dawn Prietz, pottery, Elam Stolzfus, film, Lesli Longbottom, jewelry making, Karen Roland, drawing and Grady Smith, shell carving. Artists interested in volunteering to demonstrate can contact Michele Tabor Kimbrough at 482-4225.
Professional musicians Anita Pizza and Bob Snyder will play during the afternoon reception. The Chipola Regional Arts Association with the support of The Artists Guild of Northwest Florida, Inc. will host refreshments, information tables and doorprizes for adults and children including art supplies, Artists Series tickets supplied by Chipola College, a gift basket of locally created items by the members of The Artists Guild of Northwest Florida in addition to the handsome framed art donated by John Brewer’s Studio. "John Brewer has supported this event from its inception and we are thrilled he has agreed to offer a door prize for the 4th annual event." stated Zurenda.
Entry forms for participating artists are available from Nancy Zurenda at 526-5977. There are no fees for participating artists. The Exhibit reception is November 2 from 1 to 5 pm at Chipola Arts Center. Admission and parking are free.
