Marianna City Commission Raises Gas Rates 20%

By Sid Riley
Based on data from a study conducted earlier this year, City Manager Jim Dean made a recommendation to the City Commissioners at the Tuesday evening meeting, for the city to raise the gas rate for city residential customers from the existing $ .035 per therm to a new rate of $0.42 per therm. This will be a 20% increase in the gas rate.

This rate increase is in addition to the previously approved $4.00 monthly per meter charge for gas customers. "This action is recommended because the study revealed that Marianna has one of the lowest existing rates in our area," stated Dean. The recommendation was unanimously approved by the five City Commissioners.
